Giving people umbrellas (or fans), Taiwan

"Umbrella", in Mandarin, has the same sound as a character meaning "break up". Friends should therefore never give friends umbrellas, as it has a connotation of going away or not wanting to see each other. Instead, friends will euphemistically "rent" each other umbrellas for a tiny amount (NT$1, for example).
