Train The most importatn cities are connected by railway. You are allowed to use some of the domestic trains, but usually it takes too much time.
Bus/car The roads are remarkably good. There are not many public inter-city coaches. There is not much traffic at all. You will only see some cars, mainly trucks and army vehicles. North Koreans can only travel with a special permit.
Foreigners use special toursist coaches or minibuses (coasters) or cars, always with driver and guide. While being on the road you can request for a stop which sometimes wille be granted, sometimes not.
Local transportation Local transportation is by tourist bus or car. Sometimes taxi's can be obtained, through the guide and the hotel. Bikes are not for hire. You might take a walk, but the guide will not want you to go out alone, him being responsible for what you might do or cause.
