Cyprus is a modern country that effortlessly marries European culture with ancient enchantment. Here you will discover a compact world of alluring beaches and fragrant mountain peaks, vineyards studded with olive trees and ancient ruins that stir the imagination, citrus groves and old stone villages where sweet wine flows as freely as conversations at the local café.
Cyprus lies in the eastern Mediterranean, a convenient location between Europe, Asia and Africa. Cyprus history goes back 9 000 years. As the third largest island of the Mediterranean Sea
Cyprus has been coveted, won and lost by countless civilizations over the centuries. Colonized by the Phoenician, Greek, Romans and Crusaders , Cyprus keeps traces of these cultures everywhere.
Economy of Cyprus is based on the tourism, nearly the whole budget is formed on the income from tourism, that is why the government allows to built more and more new hotels but now only of high class or luxury hotels. When Turkish occupied the northern part, the beaches and most developed areas of Cyprus came to the Turkish and the Greek part of Cyprus had to re-construct on its side the entertainment centres and hotels again. Thus the most interesting and rich nightlife can be found in the Turkish side of Cyprus and wonderful hotels and picturesque landscapes – on the Greek side.
Nowadays Cyprus faces different problems such as destructions, deforestation, atmospheric pollution etc. The methodical destruction of archaeological sites, cultural monuments, churches and historical artifacts, are part of a premeditated policy of eradicating every trace of Cypriot history and culture and transforming the occupied region into yet another Turkish province in an attempt to make it totally Turkish. The deforestation is aroused by global reconstructions of the island, numerous hotels and entertainment centres are constantly being built destroying by this the environment of Cyprus.
But despite all this Cyprus still attracts millions of tourists every year.
