Rinas Airport (TIA) is 20 mi/30 km northeast of Tirana. Rental-car agencies maintain branches at the airport. Ferries connect Durres and Vlore to several ports in Italy and Greece. Intercity buses run from Tirana to most towns. Trains shuttle between Tirana and Durres several times a day, and service is gradually being extended to the rest of the country. If you're not on a tour, the easiest way to get around is to hire a car and driver. Roads are poor, and fuel can be hard to find. Private cars were not allowed under communism, and since restrictions have been lifted, few Albanians seem to have fully mastered the art of keeping a car in its lane (a lane shared with donkey carts, goats, bicycles and large trucks). Traffic moves on the right.
