The East African Rift Valley, Tanzania

Jeremy Blackwood
Displayed: times.
The Rift Valley, a 3,500 mile primordial gash that stretches across Africa from the Red Sea to Mozambique. The Rift Valley varies between 20 to 180 miles in width in the Eastern part of Africa. The intense geological movements that began 20 million years ago continue to shape the northern region of Tanzania. The movements have created volcanic mountains, such as Mt. Kilimanjaro, with favorable environmental conditions for wildlife and vegetation. Many Tanzanian parks, such as the Ngorongoro Crater in the north, highlight an amazing display of nature.
It is the stunning beauty of these lands that have inspired writers like Ernest Hemingway, Karen Blixen, Mohammed Amin and Michael Crichton to write of this
spectacular country. More info on: www.journeytoafrica.com
