Minya, Egypt

Displayed: times.
Although not particularly easy to get to, this Middle Egypt town (pop. 203,000) on the western bank of the Nile is an ideal place to stay while exploring several archaeological sites, including Hermopolis, Tuna el-Gebal, Tell el-Amarna and Beni Hasan. The area is considerably more conservative than other parts of Egypt; travelers are advised to dress accordingly and respect local customs. Security is very high in Minya, so expect delays. The Office of Antiquities Service in the Municipal Building in Minya has information about how to get to the sites. More info on: adventuretv.iexplore.com
