Khama Royal Residence and Cementary, Botswana

On Thathaganyana Hill in the centre of Serowe village are the ruins of an 11th century village, which provide evidence of habitation long before the arrival of the Ngwato and the Khama dynasty in 1902. The royal graves lie on top of this hill, overlooking the kgotla. The grave of Khama III is marked by a bronze duiker- the Ngwato totem. Police consider this vantage point to be sensitive, and require visitors to climb with a police escort. More info on: www.botswana-tourism.gov.bw
