A village in Shirakawa-go and the region's transport hub, Ogimachi is home to several dozens of gasshozukuri farmhouses. Furthermore, farmhouses from neighboring villages have been relocated into an open air museum, making Ogimachi the best place to see gasshozukuri farmhouses.

Some of Ogimachi's farmhouses are more than 250 years old, and many are now functioning as restaurants, small museums or minshuku, allowing visitors to overnight in one of the houses, a highly recommended experience.

The Gasshozukuri Minkaen is an open air museum across the river from the village center, which was opened in the 1990s and exhibits and conserves various farmhouses and other structures relocated to Ogimachi in order to save them from destruction.

The Shiroyama Viewpoint is located north above the old village center and offers nice views of Ogimachi with its farmhouses. The viewpoint can be accessed via a walking trail in about 15-20 minutes from the village center or by a shuttle bus, which stops outside the open air museum. Note that the walking trail is closed during winter.
