Kristiansand, Norway

Kristiansand is Norway's fifth largest town and has 73.000 inhabitants in the town itself. It is a trade and communication centre for southern Norway, with good air, rail, bus and ferry links to the rest of Norway and abroad.

It has Norway's second largest harbour, over 4.500 students at two different colleges, and a mixed economy based on industry, trade and tourism. It was founded by King Christian IV in 1641. The centre has preserved the characteristic square plan in the renaissance style.

You can still find the 14 blocks of charming, old, white, wooden houses in the Posebyen, which means that Kristiansand has northern Europe's largest collection of low, wooden houses. Kristiansand has museums, nature reserves, Baneheia and Ravnedalen, Agder theatre and Christiansholm fort (1672) in the town centre. More info on: www.norwaydirect.co.uk
