This village was founded in 1636, thus being the oldest town of Guadeloupe. Its name means "old inhabitants" Since the 18th century, coffee, cocoa, vanilla and roucou were farmed in the surrounding valleys. Today you'll also see vegetable and banana plantations as well as ouassou-hatcheries (sweetwater crayfish).
To visit:
The church with a curiously roofed belfry and a cemetery with colorful tombstones.
The Griveličre: on the road D27 along the side of the river Vieux-Habitants. A big former coffee plantation, which is being restored by the Region. You can make a guided tour.
Visit of one of the few farmed coffee plantations - Vanibel. To learn everything about the techniques of coffee processing.
Hiking tours to Cręte Corossol, the valley Beaugendre or on the Trace des Crętes.
The graved rocks of Du Plessis, a major discovery site of vestiges of the Arawak culture (in Saint-Robert, road D13)
