15 km from Pointe-ŕ-Pitre, this wide spread town extends from the shore at the Petit Cul-de-Sac-Marin with view over the bay of Pointe-ŕ-Pitre to the mountains of the Route de la Traversée. the city with its fishermens' port is an important agricultural and industrial center, but at the same time a very pleasant residential area. On the hillside you will find beautiful colonial style estates and residential estates for those working in Pointe-ŕ-Pitre. Two of Guadeloupes' longest rivers, Moustique and Lezarde, have their source at Morne Joffre and run into the sea at the beach of Viard. It is a very pleasant site for vacation, especially for those seeking for ecotourism.

Waterfall Saut de la Lézarde, 20 min. hike to the waterfall in Vernou.
The House of the forest: didactic trails in the rain forest.
Waterfall cascade aux écrevisses at the Route de la Traversée.
Starting point of the "traces" Merwart in Vernou and Victor Hugues in Montebello, reaching Matouba in an 8 hours' hike.
Parc Floral de la Valombreuse: tropical garden with hundreds of differents plants, birds and butterflies.
