Vung Tau is the capital of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province in southern Vietnam. This popular seaside resort is approximately 120km (70 miles) from Saigon.

The Ba Ria - Vung Tau province basks in more than 2,700 hours of sunlight annually. Vung Tau is famous for its beaches, with the Back, Front and Dau Beaches all located quite close to the town. Approximately 90km (52 miles) southeast of Vung Tau is Con Dao Island with its dense forest and range of wildlife. The surrounding sea is home to an abundant variety of marine species. The climate is tropical and heavily influenced by the ocean, with an annual average temperature of 27°C.

Sightseeing Spots

THE VILLA BLANCH
Currently the Maritime Museum, the villa was built in 1898 for the French Governor General, and later became home to Emporer Thanh Thai during his internal exile before being banished to Reunion Island. The villa stands on the big mountain amid a forest of frangipani, bougainvillea and rare trees. Prior to 1975, the southern government used the villa as a retreat for the president and other high ranking officials. Places to see in Vung Tau include Niet Ban Tinh Xa and Thich Ca Phat Dai Pagodas, and the Whale temple.

LONG HAI BEACH
What a nice and clean resort! The beach is long, the sand is white and it is fringed with shady trees. Long Hai hotel was previously used as a summer palace for the last Emporer of the Nguyen dynasty.

NUI DAT AND LONG TAN
These places were made famous during the last war. A memorial has been set up in a rubber plantation at Long Tan to commemorate a battle between Vietnamese and Australian troops which took place there in 1967. Seafood and marine souvenirs are major attractions in both Vung Tau and Long Hai.
