Phong Tho is about 60km (37 miles) from Sapa on the road to Lai Chau. Besides the traditional style guesthouse, Phong Tho offers fine opportunities for hiking with H'mong and Dzao ethnic peoples. Phong Tho sits at the edge of the Hoang Lien Son Mountain range or real Tonkinese Alps. The area is home to some breathtaking scenery with terraced rice paddies stepping their way up the slopes and tranquil valleys ringed by mountains.
