Bankas is at the southern end of the escarpment. It is one of the better starting points for a trek. The guides are more friendly than in Bandiagara. Market day is monday.

The best place to stay is Campement Hogon, a few hundred meters from the central bus stop. Camping is also allowed. Other options include: Hotel les Arbres and Hotel-Bar Faida.

Bankas is most easily reached from Mopti by road. The trip takes about five hours. More info on: www.world66.com
