Encircled by an imposing and beautiful landscape, Nha Trang lies halfway between HCM city and Danang. Its palm-fringed, white sandy beaches stretch for more than 7km (4 miles). Nha Trang is home to arguably the best beaches in all of Vietnam. The waters around Nha Trang are almost transparent, making for excellent fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving. Day-trips to the offshore islands are popular. By chartering a fishing boat, you can get away to swim and snorkel, dine on seafood aboard the boat and visit an isolated beach or a fishing village. Nha Trang is ideal for seaside relaxation.

From Nha Trang you can take a boat to Tri Nguyen Island to visit an offshore breeding Aquarium. You can also hire a canoe to paddel to nearby islands of Hon Tre (Bamboo) Hon Mun (Black) or Hon Yen (Swallow) for a more energetic excursion.

Nha Trang was once the heartland of the Kingdom of Champa. On the North side of Nha Trang, are the best-preserved Cham towers in central Vietnam. The Cham Tower of Ponagar (The Lady of the City) was built between the 7th and 12th centuries. The 23-metre-high North Tower (Thap Chinh) with its terraced pyramidal roof, vaulted interior masonry and vestibule, is a superb example of Cham architecture.

On the other side of the city, and a culture and religion away is Long Son Pagoda, founded in the late 19th. The 14m (46 foot) high white Buddha atop the hill behind the Pagoda is visible from all over the city. Like Vung Tau further south, Nha Trang is legendary for its fine seafood including abalone, lobster, prawns, cuttle-fish, mackerel, pomfret, scallops, shrimps, snapper and tuna. However, one of its most famous delicacies is Swallow's Nest (Yen Sao), previously served only to Royalty, overconsumption has endangered the swallow who's nest it is made from.
