Danang is located in Central Vietnam; it is surrounded by Thua Thien Hue Province along the northern border and Quang Nam on the southern border. The main ethnic groups living in this area are the Kinh, Xo Dang, Co Tu, Co and Gie Trieng. The tropical monsoon climate is divided into two seasons: the rainy and dry seasons. The average temperature is 25.6°C (78°F).
Go back in time, Danang was where the Sa Huynh culture flourished during the Iron Age, over 3,000 years ago. The first inhabitants of the region were the ancestors of the Cham people. During the period between the 1st and the 13 centuries, many majestic places, palaces, temples, and military relics were built in the ancient capital of Tra Kieu, My Son holy land. The Cham towers in Bang An, Chien Dan, and Khuong My were also built during this period. Method of construction of these sites mystifies experts. Some theorize the Cham structures were built using a firing process: dried bricks were laid, vegetable resin used as adhesive, and the entire structure set afire from the outside for several days to seal the brickwork. These sites are tokens of the excellent artistic power of the Cham people in music, arts, and customs.
