Used to be called the capital of the Western part of Vietnam that still gets the name now for white rice. Cantho is the political, economic, cultural and transportation center of the Mekong Delta. This friendly, bustling city is connected to most popular population centers in the Mekong Delta by a system of rivers and canals. Ben Ninh Kieu (Ninh Kieu Wharf) is the city's major trading centre. Close to Ninh Kieu Wharf is the Cantho harbour which can accommodate ships of up to 5,000 tons. The Can Tho Market is a major market place in the western region of Mekong Delta. The riverside market is attractive for its floating restaurant located in the Hau River. Connoisseurs can enjoy the province's specialties while watching the bustling river route where hundreds of boats hurriedly pass by. Cantho also renowned for its Stock Garden (Vuon Co) which is a 1.3 hectare stock sanctuary on the road between Cantho and Long Xuyen. ItÂ’s popular stop for you to view the thousands of stocks that reside here. There is a tall wooden viewing platform, and the best time of day to see the birds are from 5 to 6 am, and again between 4 and 6 pm.
