Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

There is not a great deal in the Dominican capital to detain the adventure traveler for too long - although the Colonial District and the city's museums should not be missed! You can go paragliding and caving at sites not far from Santo Domingo, and, being the capital, governmental offices such as the Ministry of Tourism and the Direccion Nacional de Parques can be found here.
Santo Domingo has the shopping malls, cinemas, fast-food chains, theaters, museums and flashy hotels to rival any North American city. The Colonial District and Gazcue are good places to go for reasonably priced accommodation, and finding a room for under US$50 is not a problem.
