Las Galeras, Dominican Republic

The small town of Las Galeras is on the northeastern tip of the Samana Peninsula, the last stop on the highway which runs along the north coast from Puerto Plata. This is the closest town to Playa Fronton, arguably the finest spot in the Dominican Republic for rock climbing.

The few hotels in Las Galeras are slightly more up-market than you will probably find elsewhere. The recently renovated Club Bonito is very good, with a lovely swimming pool and right on the beach.
