A quiet atmosphere, fresh and salt-tinged air, friendly people and some of the tastiest, affordable seafood this side of the Klang Valley can be found in Pulau Ketam.

How to get there

There are a number of routes to get here. For those from Kuala Lumpur, the Federal Highway is the best route while the North Klang Valley Expressway is the ideal option for those who live in Petaling Jaya. The route is simple, just follow the signs that will take you to Port Klang.

Southport, the original “Pelabuhan Klang” has already been eclipsed by more modern and high-technology ports but it doesn’t stop people from using it. Tickets to cruises can even be bought here. The jetty facilitates the ferries that sail to and from Pulau Ketam.

The schedule is a regular one – expect a vessel docking to let off and pick up passengers every 45 minutes or so, with routes increasing to every half hour or so on Sundays. Tourists as well as residents use this mode of transport – the air-conditioned long boats cost RM5.50 per trip though for a higher fee, there are motorboats for hire as well.

The boat trip from Southport to Pulau Ketam takes about half an hour and passes near mangroves swamps.
