The Sutjeska National Park is Bosnia and Herzegovina's oldest National Park. Here is Europe's last primeval forest "Perucica" that has survived throughout the centuries. Sutjeska is also host to Bosnia's highest peak at 2,386 meters. Maglic mountain borders Bosnia and Montenegro and is accessible through the park -- its a great challenge for mountaineers, climbers and nature lovers alike.
Sutjeska River has carved its way through this rugged canyon land over the millenniums and flows through the heart of this 17,500 hectare park. It?s hard to measure the natural beauty of Bosnia and Herzegovina but Sutjeska certainly offers the best of the best. Its mountains, lakes, rivers, forests, preserved and thriving wildlife are amongst the most magnificent in Europe. The range is an extension of the Swiss Alps... these Dinaric Alpine ranges extend deep into the Balkan Peninsula to the Prokletija Mountains bordering Montenegro and Albania.
Its rough terrain assisted the locals in defeating the advancing Germans in a crucial battle during the second world war... adding cultural and historical value to this heritage site. If you?re looking to get lost into Robin Hood like forests and fairytale lands of pristine, wild beauty this is one place you must see, feel, and live.
There are campgrounds, mountain lodges, guided hiking, climbing, tour skiing, and fishing activities, restaurants and cafe's, youth group excursions and maybe the most amazing nature experience of your whole life. We guarantee peace, serenity, wild - untamed nature, professional & safe guiding, and of course - warm and genuine Bosnian hospitality. Our newly built mountain lodges provide comfortable and affordable lodging with homemade and organic foods. The Park is open all year round with some limited access during the winter months. The mountain lodges operate all year round as do guided hiking, trekking, and tour skiing tours. Campsites are open all year round and tent dwellers are WELCOME! If you'd like to climb to the top of Bosnia and feel the mystical powers of this natural oasis -- Sutjeska is the place to be
