Alternate spelling, Omnogovi. It is an aimag, or province, of Mongolia. It is located in the southern part of the country, in the Gobi Desert, and as of 2001 its population was estimated at 47,300. The provincial capital also bears the same name, and is located 540 kilometers (336 miles) south of the national capital, at Ulan Bator.
The province is rich in mineral deposits, including gold and copper.
The city of Umnogobi is situated at 49° 1' North latitude and 91° 43' East longitude, and the altitude of the city center is 1,590 meters (5,217 feet).
