The Creole charm of Saint-Denis : An exploration of the city centre, its historical monuments that stand as a testimony of the splendour from the East India Company's era to the 1900s.
Historical Saint-Denis : From Barachois to Rue de Paris, a number of buildings and Creole houses dating back to the colonial days are the historical landmarks of the now biggest French overseas city, from 1669 to our times.
Religious Saint-Denis : The Cathedral of Saint-Denis off Avenue de la Victoire, the new Kalikambal Tamil Temple and the Mosque on Rue Maréchal Leclerc (visitors are allowed outside praying times), Buddhist Pagodas along Rue Sainte-Anne.
Cultural Saint-Denis : The birthplace of famous people such as Air Pilot Roland Garros, Poet Léon Dierx, Empire General Bailly de Monthyon, Saint-Denis has several cultural places like Artothčque, the Léon Dierx Museum and the Natural History Museum.
Picturesque Saint-Denis : In the shops and numerous markets you will get a glimpse of the mixture of races and cultures found in Reunion Island (Indian Ocean crafts in the Big Market; fruit, vegetables and spices in the Small Market and the local stall-markets of Chaudron, La Source, Camélias and La Petite-Ile).
Natural Saint-Denis : A quick drive out of the city takes you to the upper reaches where you will have a wide panorama of the city. From East to West, picturesque sites with lush vegetation and excursion routes : East of Saint-Denis : Ilet Quinquina for picnics and swims, Montauban market gardening fields at La Bretagne, supplying the capital with fruit and vegetables, Morne des Patates-ŕ-Durand or Pic Adam at Piton-Bois-de-Nčfles, with a magnificent view of the coastline. North of Saint-Denis : The Providence botanical path kept by ONF (National Forest Authority), Le Brűlé tourist zone where many hiking trails start : Cascade Maniquet, Roche Ecrite, Mafate, To the West (La Montagne) : Colorado leisure and outdoor activities zone for golf, mountain biking, horse and pony riding, Saint-Bernard historical site at La Montagne, Grande Chaloupe, a former Reunion Railway station where a Schneider 030T locomotive (the first listed mobile historical "monument" of the Island) can be seen.
