CHUM-City Building, Canada

The CHUM-City Building is the headquarters of CHUM Limited, a Canadian media corporation. It is located at 299 Queen St. W. in Toronto, Ontario. Comprised of a terra cotta facade, the building is one of the most recognizable in the city. Its west wall is decorated with an actual Citytv news truck seemingly bursting out of the building. The front tires of the truck can be seen spinning from time to time. On the southeast corner is the Speaker's Corner videobooth, where for a dollar anyone can record two minutes of oneself. Citytv says they receive over 50 hours of footage per week, which they edit into short vignettes and a half-hour show called "Speaker's Corner". The building was originally constructed as a Methodist Bible factory in the early part of the 20th century. In 1988 it was purchased as the new headquarters for CHUM's various media outlets, including Citytv, MuchMusic, and many other channels. While the outside facade has been restored and remains intact, the building interior has been modernized. CHUM-City has no TV studios: the entire building has been rigged for audio and video. Many of their television shows, such as "BreakfastTelevision" and "Electric Circus", are filmed live on the ground floor. The ground floor features giant glass sliding partitions so that the building can be open to the street. Tours of the facilities are also held regularily.
