Ploieşti is a city in the Prahova county in Romania with a population of about 250,000. The city of Ploiesti was first mentioned in official documents during the reign of Mihai Viteazul (Michael the Brave) before 1600. Before World War II, this region was one of the most important oil fields in the world. During the war it was the main source of oil for Nazi Germany and was heavily bombed by the British and American forces. Although oil production is now much lower, there is still a flourishing oil processing industry. After the 1989 Revolution Ploiesti had a fast economic growth due to foreign investments like CocaCola, Efes Pilsner, British American Tobaco. It is also a developed textiles manufacturing center.
