You will come across a good number of windmills when cycling across the Dutch countryside. You will most certainly see windmills when cycling along Kinderdijk or the Zaanse Schans.

KINDERDIJK
A well known area with numerous windmills is the Alblasserwaard in South Holland. The most famous part of this area is Kinderdijk, with its nineteen windmills in a row. You can cycle the Windmill Route. This signposted route is 43 kilometres long. A good place to start is near Kinderdijk, from where you can follow the signs further. The route takes you through a typical South Holland polder landscape, the Lek River and, naturally, windmills.

ZAANSE SCHANS
The Zaanse Schans is a collection of wooden houses and windmills on the Zaan River dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. There are two signposted routes along the Zaanse Schans: the Zaandam Heritage Route (32.5 kilometres along the Zaandam industrial heritage) and the Veenweide and Wormer Route (40 kilometers through the polders north of the Zaanse Schans). The VVV (Tourist Information Office) in Zaandam also has an English-language route available which combines the above routes. The length of this combined route is around 35 kilometres.
