Traditional Albanian cuisine includes stews, soups, bread, dairy products and vegetables (peppers, aubergines, tomatoes). Meat is roasted, grilled and fried. Barbecued meat (kebabs) is popular and minced meat is also used in recipes such as meat balls.
Desserts include honey cakes, milk puddings and ice cream. Nuts and fresh fruit (pears, apples, figs and citrus fruits) are available as well.
Coffee is preferred strong, thick and coffee houses are popular. Wine and brandy (including raki) are produced.
