When to go?, Honduras

As in much of Central America, the climate in Honduras is dictated more by altitude than by season. In the central highlands, the weather is temperate, pleasantly warm in the daytime and cool at night. It's hardly surprising that the Spanish focused their attention here, abandoning the flatlands and the northern coast, which can be unpleasantly hot at any time of year. While the Pacific and Caribbean coasts at least offer the relief of breezes and cooling rain showers, San Pedro Sula and other lowland towns can be positively scorching in summer. Honduras's rainy season , known as "winter" ( invierno ), runs from May to November, though how much it will affect your trip depends on where you're travelling. In much of the country it rains for only a few hours in the late afternoon, though along the northern coast and in Mosquitia rain is a constant feature all year round. October and November are perhaps the only months you might want to avoid these parts: this is hurricane season , when heavy rains can cause serious flooding, washing away roads and cutting off all transport.
