Culture of the island is a blend of European, African, Indian and Pakistani and islander characteristics. It contains French, Indian customs, Malagasy, the quibble, mahoraises, and their folklore. The official language is French, but inhabitants of the colony forged a vernacular language: the Creole, inherited old French, spiced words of Malagasy origin or tamoule, coloured with wishes.
