The climate is tropical, but temperature moderates with elevation (cool and dry from May to November, hot and rainy from November to April). The island experiences only two distinct seasons: the hot, rainy summer from October to March (19-30°C) and the cool, dry winter from April to September (12-25°C). The east coast is damper because of the trade winds. The west coast is protected by the massifs and so, much drier.
