Displayed: times. In 1979, the government of Bonaire created the Bonaire Marine Park. It is governed by STINAPA, (Stichting National Parken Nederlandse Antillen) and it's primary role is that of a nature conservancy organization. The Marine Park encompasses approximately 2700 hectares and extends all the way around Bonaire, from the high water mark to the 60m depth contour. It is a favorite location for researchers and scientists to come and study the wonders of the coral reefs from coral spawning to bleaching events to the preservation of the conch. Bonaire and satellite Klein Bonaire together are one of the most popular dive destinations in the world due to the variety of sea life and ideal diving conditions with dependable 100-foot-plus visibility.
