Displayed: times. The administrative capital of the Netherlands Antilles (estimated population of 125,000), lies on the southern coast overlooking the St. Anna Bay. It was declared cultural heritage of the world by UNESCO three years ago. In fact Willemstad is one of the most beautiful towns chosen by UNESCO and it owes its place on the list to its Dutch colonial heritage which might be unique throughout the Caribbean's. Willemstad is also home to a stunning world-class museum, the Kura Hulanda. The Museum's focus is on the history of the slave trade. Willemstad (first established by the Dutch as a trading settlement in 1634) consists of many distinct historic sites and districts whose architecture reflects both the European planning and styles of the Netherlands and the Spanish and Portugese colonial towns.
