The majority of the people are Christian (mostly Roman Catholic) and have a mixed African background (descends from the African slaves). The official language of the Netherlands Antilles is Dutch, but Papiamento (a Spanish-Portuguese-Dutch-English dialect) is the predominant tongue on Curaçao and Bonaire. English and Spanish are also spoken. Population: Population: 210,134 (2000).
