Wildlife consists mainly of seabirds such as Frigatebirds and Booby birds which are restricted to uninhabited islands especially North Keeling. Land crabs are common on all islands. While no mammals exist on North Keeling, land crabs are conspicuous on the forest floor, seabirds are prolific with many species breeding, and there is a host of small invertebrates present. Sixty one plant species have been recorded there with only one endemic sub-species; Pandanus tectorius cocosensis which can be found on Home Island and the southern end of West Island. The islands have also outstanding, near intact coral atoll ecosystem (dolphins, turtles, bottlenose, manta rays, nudibranchs and houndreds species of fish, hard corals, molluscs, crustaceans and echinoderms).
