Displayed: times.Pulu (Cocos-Malay word for island) Keeling National Park was proclaimed in December 1995 and is Australia's sixth and smallest Commonwealth National Park. It represents an island atoll in its most natural state, and it may represent the best example of the original vegetation typical to the Cocos Islands. Globally threatened species occurring at the site include the turtles (Chelonia mydas) and (Eretmochelys imbricata), and the Cocos Buff-Banded Rail (Rallus philippensis andrewsi), both are threatened globally and endemic. Public access is only permitted in the company of Parks Australia staff or licensed tour operators.
