Dojran lies 48m above sea level. A road of 15 km branches off the international Skopje - Gevgelija road, leading through the town Bogdanci to the fishing settlement of New Dojran (Nov Dojran). The tourist settlement is called Old Dojran (Stari Dojran), only two km from New Dojran. Before the First World War, Old Dojran had 12.000 inhabitants, but due to the bombardments it was largely destroyed because it was in the region of the front, and all the inhabitants left. Therefore, two settlements were established - Old Dojran with the ruins and newly built hotels and vacation houses near lake Dojran, and New Dojran a small fishing town.
