Often described as the "island that time forgot", Ambrym is one huge volcano 25km across. The centre of the island is an enormous ash plain, the crater of the old volcano. Two smaller vents at the top can be reached by one of the greatest walks in the Pacific, through flowering jungles and barren moonscapes. Ambrym is also home to a culture untouched by time or European influence, an island of mystique. It holds the greatest reputation for major sorcery throughout the archipelago with black magic being as much an art form as the sand drawings and woodcarvings.
