Zanzibar - Jozani Forest, Tanzania

This small remnant called Jozani Forest is as close as Zanzibar has to a National Park and is located on the isthmus that links the northern and southern parts of the island. The entrance to the Jozani Forest Reserve is on the main road between Zanzibar Town and the southern part of the East Coast, north of the village of Pete. Because the water level here is very high the tree species that are found here are mainly moisture-loving palms and figs, as well as some introduced species such as the Alexandrian laurel. Most visitors to the Jozani Forest come in search of the famous Red Colubus monkeys that are unique to Zanzibar.
