Zanzibar - Bikhole Ruins, Tanzania

Bikhole Ruins are located approximately 20 kilometres southeast of Zanzibar Town these are the remains of a large house dating from the 19th Century. The house was complete with a Persian-style bathhouse and a beautiful garden. Used up to the 1920s the house then became uninhabited and has fallen further and further into ruin. Although the front door has collapsed one still enters through here – and is faced by a wide pillar – this was so designed so that any visitor coming to the door would not be able to see within in case Khole or the other ladies of the court were unveiled.
