Lake Victoria is located in the East African Rift Valley, in the very north of Tanzania. It is the largest tropical lake in the world and the second largest freshwater lake in the world . Lake Victoria has many islands and archipelagos. Mwanza is the 3rd largest town in Tanzania and lies on a narrow peninsula in the south of the Lake. The architecture varies from the old Indian Public Library, the grand New Mwanza Hotel, to the tall modern bank in the city centre. The special charm of the town lies in the waterfront and port area with an animated market, loading and unloading of ships and a vibrant birdlife.
