Mount Kenya straddling the equator, and is 193 kilometres northeast of Nairobi, and 480 kilometres from the coast of Kenya. The environment of Mount Kenya is extremely unique with many endemic species of plant found here. This mountain is an important water catchment area feeding the major rivers of the Ewaso Nyiro to the north, and the Tana to the south. The park is served by 22km of two roads. The national park part of the mountain is divided into three major zones: the volcanic peak zone (also known as the nival zone) has glaciers and snowfields; the vast afro-alpine zone; and the giant heather zone. Each belt of vegetation is home to different wildlife. The wildlife seen here includes: Black fronted duiker, Black rhino, Black and White Colobus monkey, bongo, buffalo, bushbuck, eland, elephant, genet, Giant Forest hog, hyena, leopard, olive baboon, serval, suni, Sykes' monkey, warthog, waterbuck, and zebra.
