Aberdares National Park lies in the central highlands, west of Mount Kenya. Offering spectacular scenery, an excellent range of wildlife, and superb bird life, the Aberdare National Park is a popular park and is probably most known for The Ark and Treetops lodges. The highest point is at Ol Doinyo Satima at 3,998 metres. Between the high mountains there are steep canyon like valleys, as well as some more gently sloping hills with interspersed rocky outcrops. At high altitudes rich alpine and sub-alpine vegetation occur and descending these gives way to bamboo forests and montane forests. The wildlife is most abundant in the forest areas. All of the Big Five can be seen here - lion, leopard, good population of Black rhino, buffalo and elephant. Other species found here include: baboon, Black and White Colobus monkey, Black-Faced Vervet monkey, bongo, bushpig, dik dik, duiker, eland, gazelle, genet, Giant Forest hog, reedbuck, suni, Sykes' monkey, warthog, waterbuck.
