Displayed: times.Maputo Elephant Reserve is situated in the southernmost part of Mozambique, 79 km south of Maputo, in the province of Maputo where the rolling hills meet the sea. The habitat is typical of the Maputaland Coast and the soils are sandy and acidic. The area experiences a humid tropical climate. During the years of conflict the animal population of this Park was decimated and only around 400 elephant, some leopards, and few antelope, crocodiles, hippos, and side-striped jackals remain. Large flocks of flamingos can be seen on the inland lakes close to the sea as well as a variety of other waterbirds.
