Displayed: times. The Gorongosa National Park is situated in the middle of the country in Sofala province 150 km by road from the city of Beira. It is best known for its endemic bird species found only in the Gorongosa area. The Park comprises dry plains dropping away from Gorongosa Mountain range at the southern end of the Great Rift Valley. Comprised of a great diversity of grasslands, tall miombo woodlands, Afro-Montane forests, valley thickets and seasonally inundated flood plains. Wildlife include several small herds of elephant, a few lion, impala, warthog and several other species of birdlife. However it is the variety and beauty of the habitat and the birds it supports which is the real attraction.
