Beira is situated halfway up the coast in Sofala province at the mouth of the Púngoč River. It is second largest city in Mozambique. It is also an important port. The buildings here have a Mediterranean style and the infrastructure of the city is being re established after years of neglect and abuse. The main attractions are: the city square (Praça), the cathedral, Casa Portugal, an 18-hole golf course.
