Kars is the capital of the province of the same name. Kars is situated at the junction of a plain and a mountain, at an altitude of 1750m in a sea of dry grass swept by the wind. The climate is rather severe, the winters are long and very cold, with temperatures going down to -30C, Summer is short and cool.
