Migdal David (Jerusalem's citadel) was built 2,000 years ago by Herod the Great. The fortress was used as a defense against any attack from the north and the west (the city's defensive weak points).

Today the citadel has been transformed into a great museum celebrating the long diverse history of Jerusalem.
