Displayed: times.East Timor is a cash economy, so bring enough with you. There are branches of the Australian ANZ Bank and Portuguese BNU Bank in Dili dispensing US dollars from ATMs. Credit cards are only recognised at some of the more expensive hotels, shops and restaurants. Official currency exchange is overseen by the Central Payments Office (CPO), the interim answer to a central bank, and Dili has a thriving street exchange scene.
