Sierra Leone has a surface land area of 72,325 kilometers with marshy coastal areas that rise to a plateau in the north and east and the highest elevation point of Mount Durukonko at 11,948 meters. The country has a humid tropical climate, tending towards equatorial conditions due to the exposure of the coast to winds from the south.
