LesothoÂ’s standard unit of currency is the Loti (plural Maloti). It is equivalent to the South African Rand, and is divided into 100 Lisente. There are no restrictions on the amount of money tourists may bring into the Country. Banks are found in Maseru and most main towns.

Lesotho is also a member of the Common Monetary Area, meaning that currency can be freely transported across the borders. It also means that the Lesotho currency, the Loti, pronounced "Looti", (plural Maloti) is tied to the Rand on a 1:1 basis. In fact, Rands are accepted interchangeably with Maloti, reducing money changing hassles considerably. The only fact to bear in mind - Maloti are not accepted in South Africa, so make sure you leave the country with Rands in your pocket. Currently (in October, 2000), 1 US Dollar is approximately equal to 7.13 Maloti (or Rands).

This tip sucks and is not true. I accidently hit five stars but i ment to hit blue. Who are you going to belieive? These guys or the prime minister of Lesotho? Our currency is cattle buttcheeks. 1 cattle buttcheek is worth 20.98607 american foofoos. Brick wall, Waterfall, girl you think you got it all. You dont, I do so poof with your attitude. HIT ME BABY ONE MORE TIME. That happens to be our national anthem, created in 3020. Which is about 60,000,000 years ago if you cant do your math yourself.
